What this experience knows

This experience is grounded in Chapter 22 and treats attention as a resource governed by user-owned, inspectable policy.

Extraction boundary

The engine evaluates semantic units inside the laboratory feed, not the entire document. Private messages and payment forms are excluded before evidence collection.

Provider boundary

Deterministic DOM evidence, Chrome’s Prompt API, a Transformers.js contract specimen and a localhost contract specimen all produce the same typed evidence envelope. Specimen adapters are labelled simulations and never browser attestation.

Policy boundary

Policies are versioned JSON rules compiled into deterministic predicates. Models may contribute evidence; they do not secretly select show, label, reduce-prominence, blur or hide.

Uncertainty boundary

Missing evidence remains unknown. A profile’s explicit unknownAction determines presentation; absence is never converted into a confident negative claim.

Rendering boundary

Actions modify only the fixture’s local presentation. Hidden and blurred units retain placeholders with reveal, explanation and reapply controls.

Performance boundary

Only in-viewport units are evaluated. Decisions are cached by origin, content digest, provider and policy version; off-screen work is deferred and live inference can be cancelled.

Provenance boundary

Each evidence item records its source and whether it is an observed fixture declaration, deterministic metric, live model assessment or simulated adapter response.

Execution boundary

The laboratory performs no navigation, storage, network request or page-wide mutation. Live Chrome inference uses the browser-managed Prompt API only when explicitly selected and available.

Evidence boundary

Metrics-only events retain unit identifiers, hashes, provider IDs, policy versions, actions, latency and cache outcomes. Unit text and raw live-model output stay in page memory.

This laboratory applies a user-owned policy to a contained sample feed. It extracts content units, excludes sensitive regions, normalizes evidence from interchangeable providers, compiles deterministic rules and changes presentation locally.

Every hide, blur, label and prominence change is reversible. No decision alters source content, leaves the page or claims to determine whether content was generated by AI; that specific evidence problem begins in Chapter 23.
