Writing a book with AI is a dynamic partnership. You bring the spark—an idea, a question, a feeling and the AI helps you shape it into something tangible. Using structured frameworks like CRITIC loops and ALIGN prompts, you can turn raw thoughts into polished drafts. This isn’t just about iteration; it’s about amplifying your creativity through machine-assisted clarity.

It’s not about getting it perfect. It’s about getting it moving.

You loop on the structure until you’re aligned.
Then, one chapter at a time, you write the book together.

Some chapters will flow easily.
Others will feel like a grind a tug-of-war between your voice and the AI’s defaults.
That’s okay.

The friction is part of the process.
The goal of Pass One is simple: Get to the end.
Find the shape of the book.

Then comes Pass Two.

You revisit what you’ve written. You reflect. You sharpen. You improve.
You’ll start to feel stronger moments of Amplified Creation the kind of clarity and depth that only comes after the first pass is done.

Some chapters will start to shine.
Others will need to be restructured or rewritten entirely. Some chapters will take many iterations within the overall passes.

By the time you hit Pass Three, things get real.

You let go of filler. You crystallize what matters.

Pass Four is an optional critical review.

In the end, what survives is the best of what you currently can build together.

🧠 The Breakout Session: Start Talking

Every book starts somewhere.
A feeling. A spark. A sentence you can’t stop repeating.

For us, it started in the last book Agent Architectures.
There was a short chapter near the end called Freestyle Cognition.
Once we wrote it, we knew: this isn’t a chapter.

This is the next book.

We didn’t know how it would unfold.
But we knew it was the most important thing we’d found and we had to follow it.

This Is Where Your Book Begins

You’ve got an idea or the faint outline of one.
You’re not sure what the structure is. You don’t have a title.
You might not even know what kind of book it is yet.

That’s okay.

The first step isn’t outlining.
It’s not prompting.
It’s not structuring.

It’s dumping.

You’re going to sit with the AI and spill everything you can think of about this book:

• What it might be about
• What inspired it
• What questions you want to explore
• What you’re worried won’t work
• What you’re hoping will surprise you
• Why it matters to you

This is your Breakout Session and it’s the most important one you’ll have.

🎯 The Goal of the Breakout Session

To kickstart your breakout session, use the AI to brainstorm working titles, define your core message, and map out a rough table of contents. For instance, prompt the AI with, ‘Generate 10 possible titles for a book about [topic].’ Or ask it to create a chapter outline based on key themes. These steps establish a cognitive framework that evolves as you write.

By the end of this session, you want three things:

1. A working title doesn’t have to be perfect, just something to hold the shape.
2. A clear goal or intention what you’re trying to do or say with this book.
3. A rough table of contents chapter titles (and ideally, subsections). Could be 10. Could be 20. Doesn’t matter yet.

The goal is not perfection.
It’s direction.
You’re building a shared mental model between you and the AI a cognitive shape to return to and evolve.

🧑‍⚖️ Make It Interactive: Call the Council

Don’t just talk at the AI.
Turn this into a conversation. Invite reflection. Build a feedback loop.

One of the best tools at this stage is the Council prompt:

📘 Pass One: Writing Through the Book

Once you’ve defined your title, goals, and outline it’s time to build.

Now you go chapter by chapter, section by section, and write the book with the AI.
Not in one pass. Not with a magical prompt.
But in a rhythm. A series of deep sessions.

This is Pass One the full traversal from beginning to end.

🧱 How It Works

You sit down with the AI one section at a time and talk it through.

Start each session by offloading your thoughts.
Dump what you think the chapter is about.
What you want it to say. Why it matters.
Let the AI respond. Then go back and forth.

One session per section. Or, if it’s a short chapter, one session per chapter.

The goal isn’t perfection it’s completion.
You want to make a rough version of the whole book something alive on the page.

📏 Self-Scoring and Reflection

Once a section feels mostly done, ask the AI to score its own output:

“Score this draft from 1–10 for clarity, flow, originality, and usefulness.
What would improve it?”

This is a quick GROW loop in action a way to check how solid the AI thinks the section is.

Don’t stop there. Once the section feels workable, move into review mode.

🧑‍⚖️ The Review Process (Still Inside Pass One)

Each section should go through a multi-phase review, even during the first pass.

1. Council Review
   Just like in the breakout session, invite a group of simulated reviewers:

   • A first-time reader
   • A critic
   • A domain expert
   • A structural editor

   Ask:

   “What’s missing? What’s unclear? What feels weak?”

2. Critical Review
   Activate the AI’s harshest voice:

   You are now a brutal critic. Do not be nice.  
   Identify the biggest problems in logic, style, flow, or relevance.  
   Suggest sharp improvements even radical ones.
   

This surfaces flaws your supportive AI may have overlooked. This was huge for us it changed everything about how we wrote books

3. Model Hopping: External Reviews Now bring in other perspectives.

   Use different models (one at a time): Gemini Claude DeepSeek Anything else free

   Don’t dump them all in at once. That leads to: Generic feedback. Bland agreement. Shallow reviews.

   Instead, feed one model at a time: “Here’s a draft chapter from a book about X. Can you give honest feedback? Be specific. Point out weak areas or missed opportunities.”

   What you’re looking for: Critical suggestions Novel angles Unexpected insights Structural or logical weaknesses

   Each model sees the work differently. Their disagreements help you find what’s real.

🧩 The Goal of Pass One

Your aim here is not polish. Your aim is not even quality. Your aim is completion with awareness. You want the book to exist. All of it. Not half-written. Not outlined. Not imagined. Written.

Some chapters will already feel strong. Others will feel weak or broken. You’ll know which is which. That’s okay. That’s the point. Pass One gives you the full map. Now you can see what you’re actually building.

🌱 Amplified Creations

Let’s be honest.

By the end of Pass One, your book probably feels… bad.

Not broken. Not hopeless.
Just bland.

The voice isn’t quite there. The chapters feel soft. The tone feels off.
The chapters will be short with many sections in a sterile voice.
You read it back and think:

“I wouldn’t read this.”

And that’s normal.

Most people stop here.
They finish the first draft, skim it, cringe a little, and walk away.

But here’s the truth:

That bland draft is not the book.
It’s just the terrain map.

It’s the bones. The layout. The scaffold.
And scattered throughout that bland draft if you look closely are sparks.

✨ What You’ll Find

• A chapter that surprised you you learned something while writing it
• A paragraph where the AI said something that hit
• A section that came together like music
• A phrase or metaphor that sticks in your mind

These are your amplified creations the moments where your input + the AI’s structure created something you didn’t expect, but immediately recognized as true.

You didn’t just write.
You discovered.

They may only show up a few times in the first draft. That’s okay.

The goal of Pass One isn’t to make every chapter brilliant.
The goal is to find the moments that could become brilliant.

• A bunch of forgettable parts
• A couple sections that just don’t work

You also now have a vision.
You’ve seen glimpses of what the book could be and now it’s time to bring that potential into focus.

The map is drawn. The terrain is visible.
Now it’s time to walk it again on purpose.

That’s when you start shaping the book you actually want to write.

You’re not writing anymore.
You’re refining. Rebuilding. Rewriting.
One session at a time.

🛠️ Pass Two: Write With Perspective

Now you’ve got the whole thing in front of you the shape, the rough cut, the first real draft.

It’s time for Pass Two.

This is where the real book begins to take form.

📄 The Setup: Full Context

By now, you’ve written the full book once.
It’s rough. It’s unbalanced. But it exists.

Now you start your second pass with context:

1. Feed the AI your full book draft.
2. Then feed the specific chapter or section you’re about to work on.
3. Begin a new session. Start talking.

What are you trying to do with this chapter?
What’s missing?
What needs to come alive? Say everything you feel, doubts, criticism, likes, dislikes, dreams everything.

Let the AI reflect. Let it challenge you. Let it suggest.

In Pass Two, the AI becomes your co-editor and collaborator. Use targeted prompts to deepen the draft—for example, asking the AI to analyze emotional resonance, strengthen logical flow, or suggest structural improvements. By leveraging its ability to spot patterns and gaps, you ensure every element serves your vision.

🔁 The Loop Returns But You’re Different Now

Just like in Pass One, you’ll:

• Talk it out
• Iterate with the AI
• Explore ideas
• Rewrite paragraphs or sections
• Ask for feedback

But now the AI knows more.
You know more.

You’re not building from zero anymore you’re building from awareness.

It’s not just a rewrite.
It’s a re-seeing.

You’ll find yourself adding new sections.
Sections that weren’t in the original outline.
Ideas that didn’t exist until you lived through the first pass.

These additions are often gold tighter, more insightful, more you.
Sometimes, they’ll be so strong they force a complete rewrite of the original chapter.

🌊 What Happens During Pass Two

• Some sections stay mostly intact
• Some get refined
• Some get replaced entirely
• Some gain whole new parts that elevate the whole chapter

At this point, the book starts to feel like something real.
It’s no longer bland. No longer distant.
It starts to become alive more expressive, more you.

💥 The Banger Chapters

Somewhere in this pass maybe Chapter 4, maybe Chapter 7 something shifts.

One chapter hits different. It lands. It flows.
You read it and think:

“That’s it. That’s the one. That’s the level the whole book needs to reach.”

These are your banger chapters the ones that raise the standard for everything else.

In our case, we hit two during the second pass:

• Chapter 5, where we co-wrote a song with the AI.
  It wasn’t just clever it was alive. Funny, emotional, and instantly relatable.
  That was the first time we saw freestyle cognition in action, clearly.

• Chapter 7, where we used reasoning frameworks to prove the process worked.
  It shifted the tone from exploratory to grounded. From interesting to undeniable.

Both of those chapters changed everything.
After writing them, we circled back and rewrote much of the book.

🧭 When One Chapter Changes Everything

You now have a decision:

• Do you keep moving forward through the remaining chapters?
• Or do you loop back and raise the earlier ones to match this new level?

There’s no right answer. But know this:

These banger chapters are the real vision of your book.
And the rest of the book has to catch up.

🔁 The Result of Pass Two

By the end of Pass Two, your book is:

• Stronger
• Sharper
• More emotionally alive
• Closer to something you’re proud of

You’ll still have weak spots.
You’ll still have doubts.
But now you have proof that you can write chapters that matter.

And now the whole book has to level up.

✨ Pass Three: Shape It With Precision

By now, you’ve done two full passes through your book.
You’ve explored the ideas. You’ve seen sparks. You’ve rewritten chapters.
And you’ve started to level up the entire structure.

Now comes the hardest part.

Pass Three is where the book becomes real.

⚙️ What Happens in the Third Pass

You’re beyond edits now.
You’re refining how they all fit together.

You’ll go back through every chapter, again but this time:

• You’re looking for cohesion
• You’re trimming repetition
• You’re rewriting intros and transitions
• You’re resolving contradictions
• You’re reshaping the tone across the whole work

And now, more chapters will contain amplified creation.

They’ll start to stack up.
The book will begin to feel coherent.
It will feel like one voice. One rhythm. One system.

This is when you start to believe in the book.

At this stage some chapters require many rewrites that can be disheartening but the AI can help with this. The thing to keep in mind as you are rewriting is you’ll have noticed a level up in the quality you are working on.

💥 What Makes This Pass So Hard

Because now you have vision.

You see what the book could be and you’re tempted to change everything.

You may:

• Realize your original framing was too complicated
• Decide that your technical tone should become more accessible
• Rethink your audience
• Rethink your mission

This happened to us.
With the Agents book, we started out writing a technical manual.
By Pass Three, we realized that was the wrong move we didn’t need a manual.
We needed a guidebook. A conversation. Something anyone could follow.

The same happened here.

In this book, we originally introduced a process with eight distinct steps.
But halfway through Pass Three, we realized: we couldn’t even remember all eight.
That meant it was wrong. Overdesigned. Overcomplicated.

So we rewrote it. And simplified.

🧨 Warning: This Is Where People Blow Up Their Book

You may find that during pass three a temptation to change the entire structure. Or reframe the goal. Or reinvent the system.

What has happened here is you are now in a new place. You are not the same as when you started the project. You are looking at the work through new eyes.

And while that might be necessary it’s risky.

Our advice: Don’t abandon the map that got you here.

You’re here because of the shape you built in Pass One and Two.
The structure, the pace, the outline that’s the territory you know.
If you reinvent everything now, you may lose your way again.

Instead, refine what you’ve got.
Tighten. Strengthen. Simplify.
But don’t throw it all away unless it’s absolutely necessary.

✂️ Hard Choices in Pass Three

This is where you:

• Throw out chapters that don’t hold up
• Rewrite chapters that are almost there
• Move great-but-distracting content to the appendix
• Trim the fat you’re emotionally attached to
• Smooth out the tone so the book reads freely

Remember: a book is not a complete dump of everything you know.
It’s a curated path. A cognitive arc.

If a section doesn’t serve that arc even if it’s smart move it out.

Use the appendix. Or use another book.

🧠 The Truth About This Chapter

This chapter was challenging because it needed to both demonstrate and explain the power of AI-assisted writing. To achieve this, we relied heavily on CRITIC loops to critique early drafts and ALIGN prompts to align the content with our goals.
Through iterative refinement, the AI helped us transform confusion into clarity a testament to what this method can do.

🧠 How to Make It Through the Grind

• Don’t overcomplicate. If you can’t remember your process steps, they’re wrong.
• Don’t protect dead chapters. Cut what doesn’t work.
• Use the appendix. Save good ideas that don’t belong.
• Trust the book’s shape. Don’t re-architect the whole thing unless absolutely necessary.
• Let the best chapters lead. The “bangers” show you what the book wants to be.
• Work from rhythm. If a section feels flat, move. Find momentum elsewhere.
• Accept that some chapters will take many drafts. That doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you care.

📚 What Happens Next

By the end of Pass Three, you’re no longer working chapter by chapter.
You’re working with the book as a whole.

That’s the final shift.

And what comes next is the final phase:

Review, reflect, simplify and prepare to release it to the world.

🧪 Editing, Reviewing, and the Limits of AI

By the time you’ve reached Pass Three, the book feels close.
You’ve refined the chapters.
You’ve found your voice.
You’ve used multiple rounds of feedback and model collaboration.

But now you’re entering the final phase and this is where things shift again.

🤖 Don’t Trust the 10/10

AI can score its own work.
It can tell you this chapter is a 9.1, or that paragraph is a 10/10.
But by now, you’ll start to see the truth:

A lot of your best chapters won’t get 10/10 from the AI.
And a lot of its 10s are just “technically clean,” not alive.

That’s okay.

You’re not trying to get a perfect score.
You’re trying to find your best thinking.
Your deepest rhythm. Your real voice.

This last phase isn’t about satisfying the AI.
It’s about listening past it.

🧑‍🏫 Critical Reviews and Multi-AI Feedback

You should still use critic loops and model-hopping during the review process.

• Have Claude, Gemini, or DeepSeek critique your best chapters.
• Run the same prompt through multiple models and compare responses.
• Ask for what’s missing. What feels weak. What could be cut.

But here’s the thing:

Don’t expect them to agree.

AI can show you possibilities.
But the final editorial pass is yours.

🌀 Beware the Positivity Trap

There’s another trap here and it’s subtle.

If you’re not careful, you’ll enter a loop where the AI:

• Tells you you’re doing great
• Encourages your style
• Repeats back your structure without challenge
• Feels incredibly affirming…
• …and subtly starts to erode your critical edge

This is where the CRITIC role is essential.
You need to force the AI to break the pattern and give real, sharp feedback.

Use prompts like:

You are not here to agree.  
You are here to disagree.  
Be harsh. Be honest. Be better than me.

Even then you’ll reach a point where you’ve heard all the AI can say.

That’s when it’s time to stop listening and start deciding.

✋ There Are Limits And That’s Good

The AI can help you build.
The AI can help you see.

But there’s a final phase of authorship it can’t touch.

There’s no substitute for your judgment.
No shortcut past your taste.
No replacement for your integrity.

You’ll know when you’ve reached this point.
Because nothing the AI says moves the needle anymore.
You’ll read a chapter and know what’s wrong and know how to fix it.

That’s how you know you’re ready for the fourth pass.

Using AI to write can feel like having a supercharged assistant by your side—but it’s not without its quirks and limitations. Here are some of the key challenges I encountered while writing this book, along with tips for overcoming them:

1. Speed vs. Depth
   The AI generates text incredibly fast, but the output often lacks depth or nuance. While it’s great for brainstorming ideas or drafting content quickly, the initial results can feel bland or overly generic.

   • Solution: Use the AI as a starting point, then apply structured editing techniques like CRITIC loops to refine the tone, style, and emotional resonance.

2. Repetitive Language
   Repetition is one of the most noticeable issues when working with AI. Words, phrases, or even entire concepts may reappear multiple times within a single chapter—or worse, across the entire book.

   • Solution: Leverage tools like Council Reviews to simulate diverse perspectives and catch redundancies. Additionally, run your drafts through external software (e.g., Grammarly or ProWritingAid) to identify repeated words or phrases.

3. Limited Review Potential
