Appendix: Example CRITIC Session
This is a sample transcript of a full CRITIC loop — using the AI as a coach, critic, and journal. Use it as a reference or template for your own sessions.
🧗 Coach Phase (Start of Session)
AI: What’s the most valuable thing you could accomplish in this session?
User: I want to clearly explain the CRITIC framework in a way that sticks with readers.
AI: If you could only do one great thing here, what should it be?
User: Make this chapter the most personal and transformative one in the book.
AI: Where are you holding back right now?
User: I’m still unsure how vulnerable I want to be about my own process. I don’t want to make it too abstract.
AI: How could you challenge yourself in the next hour?
User: Stay fully present. Write the entire section without jumping out to tweak previous ones. Stay in the flow.
AI Summary: You’re aiming for clarity, emotional depth, and personal truth. Your challenge isn’t technical—it’s about staying real. That’s the work.
🔍 Critic Phase (Midway Reflection)
AI: What’s working right now?
User: The energy. The tone. The honesty. It feels alive.
AI: What’s missing?
User: Maybe one more concrete example. Something they can see themselves doing.
AI: Where’s the heat?
User: When I talked about the mirror—how the AI reflects your mental patterns. That’s the hook.
AI: What would take this to the next level?
User: Include a guided prompt they can paste and try right away.
AI Feedback: The structure is strong. The clarity is high. But the magic will be in the example that lives it. Bring the user into the loop.
📓 Journal Phase (End of Session)
AI: Summarize what we’ve done today.
User: We wrote the heart of Chapter 7, clarified the CRITIC acronym, and proved the process works by living it.
AI: What did you learn about yourself?
User: That I still hold back more than I think—but when I lean in, the work transforms.
AI: What questions should we revisit next time?
User: How do we introduce journaling as a full chapter without overwhelming the flow?
AI: What’s worth remembering?
User: That readers need the experience, not just the explanation. Let them feel what this can do.
✅ Summary
This session shows how the CRITIC loop works in real time:
- Start with grounding (coach)
- Get feedback in the moment (critic)
- Reflect before you exit (journal)
Use this structure to guide any session where your goal is not just to build something—but to grow.
